Our Story

Will and Amanda met through Hinge in August 2021. We both started out by looking for a buddy to share our extra Wolf Alice concert ticket with, but we soon realized we had found something very special in each other - a concert buddy for life. Over the past years, we have built a life together founded on love, trust, and a shared passion for travel. We invite you all to share in our passion as we celebrate our lifelong partnership commitment in Edinburgh this December.

Travel

Staying in Edinburgh

We are happy to offer complimentary hotel accommodations for all wedding guests during the wedding events. Please choose if you would like to join these wedding accommodations during the RSVP process. Alternatively, you may choose to stay elsewhere.

The wedding venue is located in the New Town neighborhood, while the welcome party is in the Port of Leith. Central Edinburgh (Old Town, New Town, Royal Mile, Abbeyhill, Calton Hill) and Leith are convenient to these locations. Shuttles will leave from the Courtyard by Marriott near Calton Hill, or you can make alternative transportation arrangements.

Getting to Edinburgh

You will most likely wish to travel through Edinburgh Airport, located close to the city. From North America, winter direct flights are available from Newark (United), New York-JFK (Delta), and Toronto (Air Canada). Otherwise, you may connect through London or another European hub.

Edinburgh is also easily connected by train to London via daytime train (London North Eastern Railway) and nighttime train (Caledonial Sleeper), as well as Glasgow (ScotRail) and other Scottish destinations.

Getting around Edinburgh

Edinburgh is a small and dense city with a lot to see. There are many transportation options to get around the city:

  • The Tram system is limited but high-quality and useful for getting between Edinburgh Airport and the center of the city, where many hotels are located
  • Edinburgh has an extensive, high-quality, clean, and safe bus system with free WiFi
  • Ubers are generally available, but may have a long wait
  • Taxis are plentiful and excellent, similar to London cabs. Most hotels, restaurants, and other venues can call taxis on demand

Weather and culture

While the weather is not tropical, Great Britain and Ireland are warmer than much of North America this time of year. Snowfall is rare in Edinburgh.

Christmas is a long affair in this part of the world, and most places will maintain their Yuletide charm through New Year's Day. Expect to see beautiful decorations in Edinburgh and beyond.

Beyond the wedding

If you are interested, we definitely recommend exploring other parts of Great Britain and Ireland beyond the wedding.

New Year's in Scotland is known as Hogmanay, and Edinburgh is known for its dramatic Hogmanay celebrations. London is also a world-class destination for New Year's.

Other parts of Scotland can make for an excellent vacation as well. Glasgow, the former industrial heart of the British Empire, is a short train ride away. The Scottish Highlands are beautiful, and most readily accessible by car direct from Edinburgh or Inverness. In particular, Will recommends the Isle of Skye.

Ireland can also make for a great adventure, with its charming towns and warm pubs. Dublin, Belfast, and other cities are a quick flight from Edinburgh.
